About Us

Welcome to Beulah Matumbi Child Care Centre

Beulah Matumbi, located on Clovelly Rd, has been in operation since 1996.  We are nestled in the Eastern Suburbs, just a short walk from the Clovelly Shops.  We are a 26 place Centre that caters for 0-5 year olds, opened from 7:30am to 6pm and provide all meals (including a cooked lunch), milk and nappies daily.

The meaning of ‘Beulah Matumbi’ is ‘a vision from a hill of children of different races playing in harmony’. We aim to provide a safe and secure environment that complements the care given at home and allows for the children to reach their full potential.

Our programs are compiled using a collaborative approach of all staff, families, children and the community under the guide of the Early Years Learning Framework. As we are a small centre there are times during the day when all age groups are mixed and times when they are separated to allow for a diverse range of learning experiences.

Family involvement is an integral part of our centre so we encourage you to give us any extra information about your child so we can get a holistic picture. We also welcome your participation in the program and organised events.

We offer a range of communication such as one-on-one chats about your child’s day, daily journals through the QKeYLM portal, information boards, phone and email. If you ever feel the need to discuss any areas of concern, we are happy to make an appointment with you to talk at a more convenient time.

Philosophy

Beulah Matumbi would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, of Elders past and present, on which our centre is situated.

At Beulah Matumbi, our vision is for children from all cultural backgrounds and races to have equal opportunity. Due to this, we believe in the promotion of unity between cultures. This core belief is derived from the foundations of the founders and owner of the centre; a Lebanese and Nigerian husband and wife. The name Beulah Matumbi means ‘vision from a hill of children from many races playing in harmony’ and is African in origin. This link to racial harmony flows into our program and mission, which is for global wellbeing of children.

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to children we believe:

  • Every child is individual and unique, learning through different mediums and contexts.
  • All children should be given the opportunity to play and learn regardless of age, gender, cultural background or ability.
  • It is important for each child to explore activities at their own pace; being given freedom to learn and create.
  • They learn culturally relevant concepts through their daily interactions with their families, communities, within our centre through social interactions and our programs.
  • Children need to feel safe, secure, comfortable, supported and empowered to reach their full potential.
  • In providing an environment that develops each child’s confidence, skills, sense of identity and personality, and that gives children the freedom to explore and express themselves and promote development.
  • In the importance of their building relationships with their peers to engage in social interactions.
  • That we have a responsibility to educate and create awareness in regards to how other children and their families worldwide live.
  • In encouraging and supporting children to reach realistic goals, and in providing support when children pursue goals of their own choice.

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to families we believe:

  • That all families have diverse social and cultural practices that need to be respected and incorporated wherever possible into our early childhood curriculum through approved methods.
  • That it is important to build strong relationships between carers and families to encourage collaboration and high quality care.
  • That children learn about culture and background through their families, and this forms an integral part of their understanding and learning.
  • The learning process is enhanced through a collaborative approach with families.
  • The centre’s environment is an extension of each child’s family environment.

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to educators and programming we believe:

  • Children’s interests and talents play an important role in their desire to learn. These interests are built upon and expanded through intentional teaching and following up spontaneous experiences.
  • Children need an environment that is rich in resources with current teaching techniques to develop to their full potential.
  • In creating an environment that includes children’s diverse cultural backgrounds and extends their knowledge and respect for others.
  • Best teaching and learning practices are achieved through individual and group reflective practice.
  • Outdoor play is important for children’s exploration and experience of the natural world.
  • In modelling and teaching sustainable practices to children.
  • That self expression and creativity is enhanced through a variety of mediums and environments.
  • Children learn best through a holistic approach, incorporating all aspects of the child when teaching.
  • That children’s learning thrives when supported by a strong and secure relationship with carers.
  • Educators behaviour and professionalism is in line with the code of ethics.
  • That through practice of the creative arts; dancing, singing, acting; that children’s sense of autonomy and sense of agency is enhanced.
  • In the importance of promoting a sense of wellbeing through exercise, nutrition, safety, sleep/rest and hygiene practices..

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to the community we believe:

  • That its involvement is an important part of the child care setting.
  • In promoting sustainability in respect of the earth, and to provide for future generations.
  • That the children should be exposed to information about their local community and the culture of that community.
  • That all children have the right to enjoy their own culture, practise religion and use their own language within the community.
  • That it is diverse, embracing all it’s diversities and appreciating it’s uniqueness.
  • That to express our belief of equality in life being a right for each child, we decided to have a “sponsor child”.
