Centre Philosophy

Beulah Matumbi, meaning vision from a hill of children from many races playing in harmony, would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, of Elders past and present, on which our centre is situated.

At Beulah Matumbi, our vision is for children from all cultural backgrounds to have equal opportunity.  This core belief is derived from the foundations of the founders and owners of the centre being of Lebanese and Igbo (Nigerian) heritage.  This link to racial harmony flows into our program and mission, which is for global wellbeing of children.

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to children we believe:

  • Every child is individual and unique, learning through different mediums and contexts
  • All children should be given the opportunity to play and learn regardless of age, gender, cultural background or ability
  • It is important for each child to explore activities at their own pace; being given freedom to learn and create.
  • In the importance of their building relationships with their peers to engage in social interactions
  • Children  are a part of their natural environment, and need  daily opportunities to explore, investigate and develop their own understanding of it
  • They have a voice to input into their routines, programs, play and any other matters concerning them

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to families we believe:

  • That families are a child’s first and most important teachers, and have diverse social and cultural practices that need to be respected and incorporated wherever possible into our early childhood curriculum through approved methods
  • That it is important to build strong relationships between carers and families to encourage belonging, understanding, collaboration and high-quality care
  • That children learn about culture and background through their families, and this forms an integral part of their understanding and learning

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to educators and programming we believe:

  • Children’s interests play an important role in their desire to learn.  These interests are built upon and expanded through intentional teaching and following up spontaneous experiences
  • Children need an environment that is rich in resources with current teaching techniques to develop to their full potential
  • Best teaching and learning practices are achieved through individual and group reflective practice
  • That children’s learning thrives when supported by a strong and secure relationship with carers
  • That through the practice of the creative arts; dancing, singing, acting; that children’s sense of autonomy and sense of agency is enhanced

At Beulah Matumbi, in relation to the community we believe:

  • In promoting and practising sustainability in respect of the earth, and in providing for future generations
  • In embracing all diversities and appreciating its uniqueness
  • They learn culturally relevant concepts through their daily interactions with their families, communities, within our centre through social interactions and our programs

That to express our belief and support for equality of life being a right for each child, and all peoples universally, we have a “sponsor  child” to promote this.
